The Cape Town born artist with a background in painting, design, videography and 3d animation has recently displayed his unique photography over 4 exhibitions in and out of Cape Town. Stu Shapiro is a name hitting South Africa over the last 2 years since his return. His career took off as his photography smothered Facebook, blogs, websites and magazines.

Shapiro has often been associated with portrait and festival photography, he captures moments and people. Not only is he an event photographer, he also shoots studio modelling, landscape and products, to name a few.  The photo’s seem almost voyeuristic. “Its raw and real, it’s like I have an opportunity to be a voyeur. No-one cares about the camera at these events, they are free, honest, full of emotion, its truth.” His photo’s are vivid, emotional, honest and at times almost surreal.

I asked him why photography, he couldn’t have said it any better; “ I’ve always been fascinated by my mind and memories, for me, a big part of it is, is that photography is a way to capture a moment and re-live it later in life. A photo, through the use of composition, photography techniques and lighting can force a viewer to see something they might have missed while standing looking at the same scene, I force them to see what I see.”
